How Quality Welfare Units Improve Your Project

In last month’s article, we discussed how it is a legal requirement that everyone who works on a construction site in the UK must have access to toilets and facilities for washing, changing, eating and resting.

While it is a legal requirement, the UK regulations do not specify that these must be of a certain standard or quality, simply stating that ’the type and number of facilities you need depend on the size and type of work.’

However, studies have shown that high-quality welfare facilities can have a significant impact on your team, affecting their well-being, happiness, and productivity.

In this article, we will take a look at how our RS French quality welfare units can help to improve your project.

Whilst it is a legal requirement, it is so much more than that. Investing in your team demonstrates how much you value your team, which can help to ensure that you get the best from your team and your project.

A recent report* titled ‘A Building For The Builders: What is the Value of the Welfare Facility?’ by Mackenzie-Thompson, a scholarship participant of the Worshipful Company of Constructors, conducted a questionnaire with 353 construction workers, predominantly site workers completed the questionnaire to reveal the importance of the welfare facility, the results are very interesting.

Of the 353 responses, the questionnaire found that 66% of those questioned stated that the welfare facility was “very important/essential”, with only 2.8% who responded saying that welfare facilities were unimportant.

These statistics reveal that the welfare facility is of high value to the workers on-site.

The questionnaire went on to ask how the welfare facility made them feel. It was found that:

• 61% of workers stated that having a good welfare facility motivated them to work harder
• 83% of workers believed that a good welfare facility improved their well-being

All these findings demonstrate that investing in quality welfare facilities can help create a positive working environment, which can motivate your team and improve project quality.
