Specialised Containers

We think outside the box.

Specialised containers are ISO shipping containers which are adapted beyond the standard design to suit specific requirements for goods handling, storage, or safety needs. While options are endless at RS French, some key examples include high cube, tunnel, side access, and spill (bunded) containers, each serving a distinct purpose in logistics and storage. High cube containers are identical in length and width to standard containers but have an extra foot in height. Tunnel containers feature double doors at both ends, creating a straight-through “tunnel” when both sets are open. Side access containers are fitted with full-length doors along one side in addition to standard end doors. Spill containers (bunded containers) incorporate a built-in containment system to catch and contain spills from hazardous liquids such as fuels, oils, or chemicals.

Together, these specialised containers expand the capabilities of standard shipping units, offering tailored solutions for cargo that has unique size, access, or safety requirements while still retaining the durability and transportability of conventional ISO containers.

Our Specialised Containers

Side Access Containers

Available in:

20ft and 40ft

Side access containers also known as open sided containers allow quick and easy loading of oversized items such as machinery, pallets, or construction materials that would be difficult to load through standard end doors. Side access also improves efficiency for goods that need to be frequently accessed or partially unloaded without moving the rest of the cargo.

High Cubed Containers

Available in:

20ft and 40ft

A high cube container is a shipping container that is one foot taller than a standard, measuring 2896mm in height compared to the standard 2591mm. While their length and width are usually the same, the extra height gives high cube containers roughly 12% more internal volume, making them ideal for transporting bulky or tall cargo that doesn’t fit in a standard container.

Tunnel Containers

Available in:

20ft and 40ft

A tunnel container is a shipping container that has double doors at both ends instead of just one. This design allows cargo to be loaded and unloaded from either side, making access faster and more flexible – especially for goods that need to be unloaded in stages or where site space is tight.

Spill Containers

Available in:

8ft, 10ft, 20ft, and 40ft

A spill container, also known as a bunded container, is a storage unit designed primarily to contain leaks or spills from liquids stored inside it. Its defining feature is a built-in secondary containment system, usually a raised leak-proof floor or a sump underneath, capable of holding a set percentage of the stored liquid’s total volume. While it can store chemicals, its primary purpose is spill containment rather than broader chemical management, and it may not have all the ventilation, segregation, or insulation features of a dedicated chemical container, however they form a very good stating point. If a chemical store is what you require, we provide these at different sizes, and specifications.
