- RS FRENCH
As a multi-discipline company (probably best known for the hire and sale of shipping containers) R.S.French often surprises many when asked what type of haulage work we get involved in. A better question would be what haven’t we lifted or transported before! Viking boats, hot tubs, giant shoe boxes, cricket score boards, control panels, roof trusses, aeroplanes, cable drums and bridges to name but a few!
With a fleet of vehicles that provide exceptional capabilities and a team of drivers/operators that are 2nd to none it is no surprise that we find ourselves at the top of the list when our clients need Lorry or crane hire in Kent.
With a fleet of vehicles that is constantly being updated and improved all the time we are very proud of the standards we keep and impressions our clients have of us. Corporate colours, subtle branding and a regular maintenance and cleaning schedules aid the assurance that we have some of the best vehicles operating in Kent and the surrounding counties.

With trust and commitment at the forefront of everything we do here at R.S.french we genuinely believe that if we have the fortunate opportunity to work with you it will not be a decision you regret. When talking with our customers the due diligence and skill of our drivers and crane operators is always something that comes up in conversation and Is praised. Some are almost astounded by what we can achieve when delivering to site and regularly comment on how helpful and accommodating the drivers are.
We are aware that there are companies out there claiming to do what we do, but we rest assured that because we operate and stick to what we know within our industry, own and operate all of our vehicles without the use of sub-contractors and 3rd party drivers, constantly replenish and update our hire fleet and stick to the core values that have kept the business successful for over 30 years we will continue to go from strength to strength with the customers experience as our main point of focus.
If you have ever been unhappy with the standards, level of service or equipment experienced elsewhere then give one of our team a call on 01227 752101 and we will try our upmost to ensure your faith in the transport and hire industry is fully restored on your next job.
With the company expanding all the time and having more and more demand from customers R.S.French have invested in yet another lorry with crane mounted capabilities which is due for delivery October 2017.
If you need something moved, lifted or craned into position then give us a call and we will be more than happy to help.
As well as the fully equipped lorry fleet R.S.French also have quite an extensive arsenal of support vehicles. When you work in an industry that is quite niche it can sometimes be hard to recruit people with the exact skill-set you require. It is for this reason that R.S.French see the importance of Apprenticeships and having a good relationship with a local educational establishment such as Canterbury College and their Engineering department is essential.
By taking on an Apprentice and helping someone in the very early stages of their working life can be an invaluable experience for both the employer and the employee. With the right guidance, training and support an Apprentice can immerse themselves in every aspect of your business from the ground up and quite often with it being their first job they won’t yet have had opportunity to pick up any bad habits.
Quite often businesses are concerned about taking on an Apprentice for health and safety reasons but the way we see it, if your current working practice means it is unsafe for a youngster then it is also unsafe for your current employees and things should change.
One of the main areas of the R.S.French business is the conversion of shipping containers. We take a standard metal box and convert them into site offices, welfare facilities, toilet blocks or even bespoke one-off units. Having our own fabrication workshop where the whole transformation takes place means that our workshop operatives find themselves moving from one job to the next, quite often being a welder, carpenter, plumber and electrician all in one day! When it comes to employing staff it can be very difficult because people get set in their ways, if they are a carpenter, they want to work with wood, if they are an electrician they might not be happy plumbing in a sink unit. By taking on an apprentice we have the opportunity to mould someone into the exact skill set required for the job and with the variety of the role it will not only be challenging but hopefully interesting and certainly never boring.
A key to making the whole Apprenticeship work is a good relationship with the college. You need to be confident as an employer that the skills being learnt practically in the workplace are being backed up with the correct underpinning knowledge in the classroom. You need to have faith in the tutors that they know their trade and can prepare the Apprentice for the real world of work. Working with Canterbury College gives R.S.French the confidence that as a company we are supported and can receive guidance and support at any stage throughout the Apprenticeship. From initial contact with their Training and Recruitment Advisor through to conversations and visits from the Course Tutor and Head of the Engineering Department. Having met them all it means they know what we need from an Apprentice and the opportunities that are available to potential Apprentices long-term.
With the interview process looking to start imminently R.S.French are once again ready to invest in the future.
Due to an ever increasing customer base R.S.French are once again recruiting for workshop operatives. A company built on customer service, repeat business and recommendations, we pride ourselves on the quality of our work and our 'can-do' attitudes. If you think you have what it takes to work as part of our busy team then please send over your CV to our Business Development Manager firstname.lastname@example.org

Lift a 4 ton crane onto a P&O ferry, not a problem.
Lift a 4 ton crane onto a P&O ferry which arrives in port at 20:15 and sails again at 24:00 whilst it is bobbing up and down........ yeah, no problem..... We like a challenge!!
It is jobs like these that reiterate to us that investment in staff and equipment is of paramount importance and proves once again to our customers that when a lift is as complex and time critical as something like this they cannot afford to take a gamble on anyone else.
As per usual Chris rose to the challenge and got the job done as per the customers requests. As he always states, Chris loves a challenge and if he is told it is not possible will always try his upmost to get the job completed.
On Wednesday the 3rd May R.S.French attended an event at Buckmore Park Race Circuit in support of the Lighthouse Club which is a Construction Industry Charity which provides emotional and financial support to the construction community and their families who have suffered an injury, longterm illness or just need a helping hand.
The event was a chance to meet and compete against fellow construction workers and with a total of 31 karts out on the track it certainly made for some interesting and exciting racing!
The event consisted of a practice session and then 2 x 40 minute heats. With 2 karts entered, race 1 saw us finish in 5th and 19th and in race 2 we finished 6th and 15th.
A great night was had by all and with a massive £4580 raised for such a great cause we were delighted to be invited along and contribute.

As a Business Development Manager, I strongly believe that a company’s key to success is in the relationships it has with its customers.
R.S.French is a company that predominately deals with the hire and sale of new and used shipping containers, site offices and welfare facilities so quite often our customers know exactly what their needs are and what they are going to get. With this in mind the important piece of the puzzle is ensuring that the process is as pain free as possible and that we deliver on time and act safely and professionally throughout.
For the last 2 weeks, I have been out on the road visiting some of our existing sites and client offices to catch-up with site workers, project managers and buyers. For me it was important that they knew I was not making a sales call and that I was on more of a ‘fact finding’ mission than anything else. I wanted to know what works, what doesn’t and how we could possibly improve moving forward.
It was refreshing to hear from pretty much everyone that I met with that the relationship they have with R.S.French is much more important to them then spending time and effort searching around in the hope that they ‘might’ be able to save a couple of £’s here and there with another company. Certainly, for our big clients they love the fact that if we say we will do a job we will deliver. With a hire fleet that is constantly being refurbished and replaced with new they are confident the quality of the product will not be beaten, with the transportation of units being carried out by our own lorries and R.S.French employees they could rest assured that health and safety is never in question, and for the trickier jobs where access or siting may be an issue they knew that if we couldn’t do it then it wasn’t possible and a plan B would be required.
Here at R.S.French we pride ourselves on the relationships we have with our customers. We do not have call centres and we do not have automated telephone systems. We have a core team of people that will ensure that from initial phone call through to delivery to site you have the confidence that R.S.French really are your best choice.

As a well-established provider of shipping containers and site welfare facilities R.S.French have also built a good name for themselves in the supply and installation of modular buildings. As a trading partner in the UK for Containex (an Austrian company with an annual turnover of 297 million EUR) we found ourselves championing the brand when a traditional shipping container conversion didn’t quite tick the right boxes for our customers. Available in a variety of sizes, the beauty of the Containex product is they can be treated as building blocks to create pretty much any layout and configuration you require. With standard office units arriving at our depot ‘flat-packed” our experienced team then erect what is in effect 4 corner posts, the roof and then a series of 4ft panels. With an endless array of options for the placement of power sockets, light switches, heaters, windows and doors It really is possible to design and have built a building that meets your design specification and expectations.
With such a belief in the product, R.S.French themselves have moved from the brick built offices we had outgrown and into a configuration which saw 16 Containex units split across 2 floors incorporating a bespoke staircase. The new office complex encompasses a 20ft x 16ft meeting room, 3 private offices, 20ft x 24ft hire and sales office, reception area, toilet/shower facilities, store room and 2 breakout areas. With the groundwork complete the office building went from flat-packed to fully erect within 4 days! With just final pieces of trim to install and furniture choices to be made the team are very happy in their new surroundings.
It just goes to prove that with knowledge, enthusiasm, proper prior planning, high spec equipment and skilled operatives, even projects that seem (at times) unachievable really are possible.
For over 30 years R.S.French have been supplying shipping containers to individuals and businesses alike. A standard shipping container can be required for a multitude of reason with the most common one being additional storage. Whether a private individual who is moving house or downsizing and therefore needs to store household goods in a secure, wind and watertight container or a construction company needing to safely store plant and machinery on site over a designated period of time, we can help. Available in a variety of sizes, shipping containers really do hold the solution to a magnitude of problems.
With our own fabrication facility on site we also have the advantage of being able to convert a standard shipping container into pretty much whatever you want. We have extensive experience in office, canteen and drying room conversions but previous projects have also included an oyster shack and a garden summer house amongst many others.
The other advantage of using R.S.French is that we run all of our own transport meaning that from initial enquiry right through to delivery on site it is one company and most importantly the same core team of people that you will be dealing with. It is for these reasons that our customers keep coming back and passing on the recommendations
RS French is one of the largest providers of secure site units in Kent, offering a wide range of units including storage containers, welfare units, Anti-Vandal (AV) units, modular units, flat-packed containers, toilet hire and transport.
